Holy moments lived out
So now you understand my passion to see millions of Christ followers seeing and being holy moments to the world. Let’s end with some practical applications you can sink your holy teeth into.
Start small and add as you go.
I’ve heard it takes 30 days to establish a new behavior, and 90 days to become a holy moment habit. If you can create and repeat a behavior faithfully over time, it becomes a habit that happens with little thought. Here is an outline to developing a holy moment habit for your life.
First, remember the definition of a holy moment.
God’s presence achieving God’s purpose for God’s glory and man’s benefit.
Next, prepare your heart for the week by telling Jesus you want to start this holy moment journey. Ask Him to start showing you the good works He has planned out for you this week. Tell Him you want to see and be more holy moments for His glory. Then think about how you, right where you are, in the season of life you are in, with the limited time and energy you have, can become a holy moment movement of your own.
Remember God will make you able to experience a holy moment, you just need to tell Him you are available.
Keep a journal to track and record your holy moments. This not for prideful reasons, but for giving glory to God and developing confidence in yourself that you can make this happen.
Use the note pad section of your phone for easy access or use a daily journal app like I do. Make it easy to record and reflect on the increasing ways God is using you to accomplish His plan for His beloved creation. You will be amazed in just two weeks with how sensitive and creative you will become at seeing and being a holy moment.
Start small. Recognize that every time you stop to pray, say thanks, recognize God’s presence in nature or people, call out to Jesus in prayer, respond to a person in need, listen to a spiritual lesson or worship music, you are experiencing a holy moment. Here are some basic examples.
- Look at nature and thank God for His creation. Holy moment.
- Choose a radio station with Christ centered teaching or music. Holy moment.
- Stop and thank God for somebody or something in your life. Holy moment.
- Text a person a verse that you just read that moved you. Holy moment.
- Say a prayer before your next business phone call. Holy moment.
- Pray with your family over dinner. Holy moment.
- Ask God for strength to not tail the guy that just cut you off. Maybe he’s on the way to the ER to see his injured wife. Holy moment.
- Pray with your children before they go to sleep. Holy moment.
- Meet a friend for coffee just to listen to them and love them. Holy moment.
- Find a place to serve in your gifts where people will be blessed. Holy moment.
- Ask God to use you in the grocery store, the mall, the local soccer game, in school, at work, at play, while you drive. Holy moment
- Memorize and quote scripture out loud. Holy moment.
Just ask Jesus to show you a holy moment.
Now as you start to see and be a holy moment, (and I guarantee you will see and be many times) try to capture the moment in your journal. The reason you are doing this is so that within one week you will see how many times you had a holy moment happen to you or others around you. Keeping track will motivate you to see and be more holy moments each day. Find a good friend to share these with, one who will cheer you one and maybe become motivated to do the same. Remember the freedom you have here. You do not have to manufacture a holy moment. God already has them planned out for you this week. All you have to do is learn how to see them and walk in them on a regular basis. Be available and He will make you able!
Here is an example of what your journal day might have looked like.
7am. Read the word and thanked God for His truth
7am. Woke the kids up and sang the song “this is the day that the lord has made”
7am. Turned on Christian music instead of news on the way to the gym
Maybe the moments aren’t time oriented, just entered as the day goes by.
- Saw the sunshine and thanked God that His mercies are new every morning
- Saw the rain and thanked God for the growth it brings.
- Prayed for my husband or wife or kids to have a good day.
- Thanked God for (you fill this in, and do it often today)
- Text a part of my devotional to a person God put on my heart.
- Heard a worship song that drew my closer to Jesus on the way to work.
- Encouraged a fellow worker with a compliment.
- Prayed for Ukraine after reading the news. Prayed for Israel and other nations.
- Chose to talk about my family with the guys instead of who the new girl is.
- Gave up one hour of media to study spiritual things, write, pray, etc.
- Listened to scripture or Christ centered music while working out.
- Stopped to pray for family or friends as I hear things throughout the day.
- Commit to pray right there when somebody asks for prayer.
- Had my kids read a bible verse at lunch and tell me their thoughts.
- Stopped again to thank God that I know Him and He loves me.
- Thanked the serviceman for fixing my disposal and tell him he means a lot to me.
- Sincerely thank the person on the phone and tell them I appreciated their help.
- Be kind to somebody.
- Be curious to somebody. It’s not about you anymore!
- Stopped tailgating, now!!
- Listen, really listen to your spouse.
- Listen, really listen to your kids.
- Watch a family-oriented movie with your family.
- Be thoughtful towards somebody.
- Seek to understand first, then seek to be understood.
- Share your spiritual heart on social media. Let people hear about your love for God.
- Don’t condemn others there, or compare others, or demean others, or be jealous of others, or lie to others, etc. Live above the struggling fray.
- Ask God to show you a person who needs you.
- Ask God to show you a place that needs you.
- Ask God to show you a group that needs you.
- Ask God to send holy moments your way. Get ready to record a lot!
Now if you do this for just two weeks you will begin to see all the good works God has prepared for you to walk in. You will never go back to your selfish, stressful, empty way of living. You will begin to build a legacy of love and light in a dark and dying world.
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine………
